World Bee Day 2026: bee-friendly flowers
Here at Bunches HQ, we love bees. You may know that we have beehives at Bunches HQ, and currently house approximately 50,000 of these incredible little creatures.
The 20th May is World Bee Day, and once again we're excited to celebrate! Last year on World Bee Day, we explained how important bees are and some ways you can help them in this ever-changing climate.
This year, given World Bee Day’s 2026 theme of 'Bee together for people and the planet', we thought we would look at flowers which are good for our favourite pollinators!
The Wildlife Trusts calls planting bee-friendly flowers setting up a nectar café, which you can do by:
Choosing a sheltered, sunny area
Grouping flowers so that the colours and scents are easy for bees to sense
Choosing plants and flowers that bloom from early spring to late autumn
Choose flowers with a simple (often flat) structure, so they are the easy for bees to feed from
We recommend growing single-flowered plants rich in pollen and nectar, for example:
Sunflowers
Lavender
Honeysuckle
Foxgloves
Hyacinth
Crocus
Sweet peas
Asters
Other recommendations for bee friendly blooms are purple flowers (as bees can see the colour purple more clearly than other colours), and tubular-shaped flowers for garden bumblebees.
It’s so important to help the bees (and our planet) thrive. Why not read more ways you can help on our post from World Bee Day 2025?
