1. International Plant Appreciation Day began in 2018, started by the American Public Gardens Association. 

2. The intention of the day is to raise awareness about the importance of plants in everyday life, and encourage more people to connect with nature through local gardens and green spaces. 

3. Ancient Egyptians brought the first house plants inside over 5,000 years ago.

4. Before they were called house plants, scented and flowering plants were taken indoors so that their fragrance and blooms could be enjoyed.

5. The 18th century saw an increase in popularity of decorative containers to display plants indoors.

6. House plants in the office can increase productivity by up to 15%.

7. House plants love music, and grow better when exposed to it.

8. House plants can talk! 

9. The most expensive house plants are Variegated Monstera Varieties, which can cost $38,000 (£28,716).

10. Having a house plant has physical and emotional benefits.
