World Teachers’ Day 2026
Teachers are a vital part of any community. The importance of education, no matter who is learning or what is being taught, can’t be overstated. That’s why we’re delighted to celebrate World Teachers' Day.
Held on October 5th, World Teachers’ Day commemorates the anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which sets benchmarks regarding the rights and responsibilities of teachers.
World Teachers’ Day emphasises “the profound impact teachers have on society by equipping students with the skills, knowledge, and values needed for success,” according to Awareness Days. It also “serves as a reminder of the importance of quality education and the role of teachers in achieving it.”
From baby classes to adult education, teachers create a safe space to learn about the world and ourselves throughout our lives.
We decided to celebrate this special day by taking bouquets of flowers to our local Primary school, to give them out to teachers, teaching assistants, and the headteacher to thank them for all they do.
Why not take today to celebrate a special teacher in your life? Whether you have a family members who spends their evenings grading papers, a teacher currently helping you learn a skill, or a child whose teacher goes above and beyond for their class, you can show your appreciation with a kind word, a meaningful card, or a lovely surprise.
And, to all the teachers out there: thank you for everything you do.
