What's going on with... Freesias
Freesias are perennial plants, which means that they are long-living and flower year after year. Here at Bunches, we love their sweet perfume and beautiful colours which enhance any bouquet.
Originating from South Africa, these bulb-based blooms are mainly grown in Holland because of its mild climate – they even star in the Keukenhof Freesia and Chrysanthemum Show during the Amsterdam Tulip Festival!
However, you may have seen that the price of Freesias has increased over the past few months. Sadly, because of economic pressures, two of the main Freesia growers in Holland closed their doors in 2024. This means that Freesias currently have less supply than demand, so prices have risen by approximately 35%*.
At Bunches, we understand that saving money is on everyone’s mind at the moment, and we know that even little price increases can make a huge difference to your wallet. That’s why, even in these unfortunate circumstances, we make sure to keep our prices fair and reasonable for you without compromising on quality.
Dani Turner, Customer Experience Director at Bunches, said “Freesias are such beautifully scented flowers and have always been popular with our customers. Sadly the price of these fragrant favourites has increased recently due to less supply.
“We have had to slightly tweak our range because of the price increase; for example, we are no longer selling Freesias only their own as we felt the necessary high selling price just didn’t represent value for our customers. We are still selling Freesias in our popular Rose & Freesias bouquets though, so customers can still deliver happiness with these scented lovelies.”
Our flower and gift selection includes a wide range of prices so that you can always find a gorgeous gift. If your heart is set on a Freesia-based gift, consider a Potted Freesia Plant, which can be a long-term companion if cared for correctly! Alternatively, we have numerous collections for you to peruse - from fabulous Freesias to our plastic-free range, we’re sure you will find the perfect present at bunches.co.uk
