What do you mean? Chrysanthemums
Chrysanthemums are members of the Aster family, and we’re big fans of these autumnal blooms at Bunches. The range of shapes and sizes mean that they always add something special to an arrangement, so when looking at our selection of floral gifts, you won’t be surprised to see a Chrysanthemum or two in the mix!
According to the New York Botanical Garden, the name Chrysanthemum comes from two Greek words: chryos (which means gold) and anthemon (which means flower). However, although we know it by its Greek-based name, the Chrysanthemum was first cultivated in China during the 16th Century, where it’s called Júhuā.
Chrysanthemum means cheerfulness under adversity, as Flowers and Their Meanings by Karen Azoulay tells us.
However, there is more to these autumn blossoms than just one meaning; their colour impacts their symbolism, according to Karen:
A red Chrysanthemum means I love
A white Chrysanthemum represents truth
Yellow Chrysanthemums signify slighted love
If you’re looking to add any additional meanings to your bouquet, make sure you’re adding the right Chrysanthemum – red and yellow are very different! You can find our collection of charming Chrysanthemums and much more at bunches.co.uk
