Spreading joy at Newstead Abbey
In the run-up to the Easter weekend, we had an important question to answer here at Bunches HQ: what were we going to do with the stock in the fridge?
Leftover flowers aren’t usually a problem for us, as we fulfil orders 7 days a week to make sure our wonderful customers can get flowers delivered when they need them! However, with our team taking a well-deserved break over the Bank Holiday, the flowers in the Bunches fridge which would usually be packed in the next few days needed to find homes, and fast.
At no point did we consider wasting these wonderful bouquets by binning them. It would have been an easy solution, but that’s not how the Bunches family works. Instead, we decided to give the flowers away for free to create some meaningful moments for those in our community.
We visited Newstead Abbey to give out the lovely bouquets to the visitors passing by. It was a quick turnaround between deciding to do this and the day itself, but our team of passionate perfectionists pulled it out of the bag (or, in this case, bucket!)
After some bouquet Tetris with three cars and a horsebox, we made our way to Newstead Abbey and set up shop by the car park and the entrance. Over two hours we created meaningful moments and spread joy by giving out approximately 600 bouquets, as well as free packs of sunflower seeds for people to plant and enjoy later! From elderly couples to small children, everyone was delighted to receive free flowers - even Lord Byron enjoyed them!
People were absolutely stunned by the fact we were giving the bouquets away completely free (we had a few people asking what the catch was, and they were pleasantly surprised to hear that there really wasn’t one!)
Not only did we get to spend time in the sunshine at Newstead Abbey making people smile, but we made sure give some flowers to our local community centre in Newstead, as well as the Tri-Service Emergency Services Hub in Hucknall to show our appreciation for everything they do.
A huge thanks to the team at Newstead Abbey not only for letting us come and hand out flowers for free, but also for the teas and coffees they kindly gave us – they were both needed and appreciated!
It was a great afternoon and a huge success – we spread some joy, and reduced waste while doing it. What could be a better start to the Bank Holiday?
