How to make an autumn wreath
Decorating for autumn has become more and more popular over the years – all you have to do is look at your local craft store, and there are pumpkins and autumn leaves aplenty! The rustic colours of the season are certainly inspiring, and we wanted to see how our autumn range fared in a traditional decoration: the wreath.
Below we go through what you’ll need and the steps to follow to make a beautiful autumn wreath.
You will need:
A wreath base (consider a vine or wicker ring for a rustic feel, or a wire base for a more minimalist look. You can also use a cut out ring of cardboard!)
Flowers and foliage (fresh or dried)
Sharp scissors
Wire and/or German pins
We used:
A wicker ring
German pins
How to make a wreath:
Step 1: Trim your stems so they are between 8-15cm long.
Step 2: Place your foliage on your base of choice (placing the stems into the base if possible) and use the wire or pins to secure it. If the wire or pins are too fiddly, you can use a glue gun, but we don’t recommend this as it means you can’t re-use your base for future wreaths.
Step 3: Place your flowers within the foliage, making sure to hide any stems with other flowers/foliage. Have a play with placement to see what looks best before fully weaving them into the foliage and wreath (using the wire or pins to secure the blooms if needed). We recommend working in one direction so that it’s easier to place and weave the stems.
Step 4: Fill the gaps! If there are any spaces left, you can fill these out with little extras such as more foliage, flowers, dried fruit slices, pinecones, or leaves! Ideally you don’t want to see the base (unless that’s your aim), so make sure you have plenty of flowers and foliage for good coverage.
Voila! You have a stunning autumn wreath, which you can use as a table centrepiece or hang up on the door (using a nail or hook big and strong enough to hold the wreath). Of course, you can do this for any season, using any flowers. Why not find inspiration, and possibly even a bouquet, to create a lovely wreath on bunches.co.uk?
