Flowers and fruit: a match not made in heaven
Flowers and fruit are intrinsically linked. From the blossoms in spring which become fruit to inspiring beautiful artwork by Claude Monet, these natural wonders are an obvious, perfect pairing.
However, this is not the case when it comes to fruit and cut flowers. Although the contrasting colours and shapes of fruits next to bouquets are beautiful, placing your flowers next to ripening fruit can actually shorten their lifespan!
Your flowers may age prematurely if placed near ripening fruit because of ethylene. This is a small colourless, odourless gas which is released when a fruit matures in order to ripen it. Apples, bananas, and tomatoes are notorious for emitting high levels of ethylene.
It only takes a small amount of this gas to cause your flowers to wilt sooner than they should; we recommend keeping your blooms away from any ripening fruit so that they can brighten up your room for as long as possible. If you don’t have a huge amount of space, just keep them as far apart as you can.
Although we don’t sell fruit here at Bunches, you can find our beautiful blooms as well as gorgeous gifts at bunches.co.uk
