Floral crafts: paper Roses

Being planet-friendly and proud is a key part of our ethos here at Bunches. Our long-term goal is to be entirely plastic-free, and every day we make a conscious effort to work towards this goal. 

We use fully recyclable and compostable paper to wrap your blooms, meaning that it can go in recycling with your paper and cardboard.

However, whilst recycling is a great way to help the planet, re-using items where possible is even better. One of the ways you can do this is by turning spare paper into permanent beautiful blooms – including our floral wrapping!

As long as the wrapping is clean and dry, you can transform it into a lovely Rose by following the below steps!

You will need:

• Paper

• A piece of string

• Scissors

• A thin pencil

To make your paper Rose:

1. Get your equipment together, ready to use.

2. Cut your paper into 12 matching rectangles (any size is fine, but remember: the bigger the rectangles, the bigger the Rose! We recommend starting out with larger rectangles to get the hang of it.)

3. Take a rectangle and fold it in half. Open it up again so the inside of the crease is pointing up.
   

4. Fold each corner towards the crease. This will give you two pointed ends.

5. Fold the long edges of the now-pointed rectangle into the centre crease. This will give you a long, six-sided diamond shape.

6. Fold the rectangle in half again, so it is a thin, long strip with a point on each end. Repeat for each rectangle. Once you have 12 strips, divide them into four sets of three. Place the three strips inside each other so there are three layers.
   

7. Hold the four sets together, and tie them together by wrapping string around the centre and knotting it. You should then have 8 sections, which you can space out into a star.

8. With the open edges of the star facing down, gently pull up the top layer, pushing the paper out towards you to form a petal. Repeat this for all 8 sections, and then repeat with the next two layers.
   

   

9. Once all the petals have been formed, get a thin pen or pencil and roll the top of each petal around it to create a curved tip.
   
   Voilà! You have a beautiful paper Rose. You can roll up some extra paper to make a stem and cut out some leaves to adorn your Rose, or you can keep it as it is!
