Add a pop of colour to your garden…
We hope you like your little gift and enjoy watching these delicate flowers grow and bloom.
Remembrance Sunday is a national day of reflection here in the UK, a chance to remember and honour those that have protected or lives and freedoms. Throughout November, people may choose to wear a paper Poppy until Armistice Day or Remembrance Sunday.
These lovely blooms mean so much to many people, which is why this year we have opted to include a small packet of Poppy seeds with your orders in November, perfect for planting in the garden as a symbol of remembrance or simply a pop of colour.
Here you can find top tips on how to plant your wild poppy seeds…
Growing Conditions:
Wild poppies prefer well drained soil and full sun.
When you plant your seeds:
You can plant your seeds directly into your garden in spring or autumn. You can also plant between March and May, but you’ll have to wait until the following summer for a healthy display.
When can I expect my seeds to flower:
Wild poppies are an annual plant that will flower throughout the summer months.
What you will need:
- Your wild poppy seeds
- Gardening gloves
- A rake
- A trowel
How to grow your wild poppies:
- Find a sunny spot with good drainage where you’d like your wild poppies to grow and weed this area with your trowel before raking to a fine texture.
- Sprinkle the seeds thinly across the ground to create natural looking drifts.
- Allow 7-30 days to germinate, keeping the soil moist during this period.
- Once the seedlings are large enough to handle, spread them out to around 30cm (12in) apart.
- Water the area regularly, especially during dry spells but be careful not to overdo it!
Once planted, your wild poppies will come back year after year, brightening up your borders and beds for summers to come.
