Primary Healthcare Uganda (2009)
The World Health Organisation states that ‘88% of all diseases are caused by unsafe drinking water, inadequate sanitation and poor hygiene’. Links International has seen hundreds of communities around the globe transformed through training and empowering community influencers in primary healthcare.Seven Links Healthcare Training trips are scheduled for 2009 and will impact 64communities.
Training is open to the whole community, but a core team of community influencers, committed to ongoing training, are selected as potential voluntary healthcare workers. Links works with this team to help them discover how they can bring positive change to key issues facing their community. Where appropriate existing healthcare professionals are up-skilled.
Our donation in Primary Healthcare in Uganda will:
- Provide a comprehensive needs assessment for 3 communities around Tororoand Kamuli
- Train core community influencers in 3 communities on key health issues
- Teach communities, especially mothers, on key issues from the needs assessment
- Train and up-skill village health workers in government employment
- Provide hand washing, teeth cleaning, and STD education to schools
- Link teaching of the key health issues to practical projects (pit latrines, rubbish disposal etc.)
